Even a good friend should never be the sole emotional support. That makes him a critical point of failure and those should be avoided.

Be the friend she's looking for in your boyfriend, and then play matchmaker so she can have her own boyfriend to lean on.
She's a person too. You should be supporting her too. If they exclude you when they're going out, that's when it's suspicious behavior.
