Just be blunt and say exactly how you feel and don't sugarcoat it

You wouldn't really need to bring this up, it only raises suspicions, I know it would for me, however, if you need to do so, just tell him what you're telling us here in the question

I have several times, and showed him how much I appreciate him and how safe I feel with him.

We actually met on instagram in 2019, but yes he initiated the conversation.
