Why does my girlfriend family dog growl and bark at me?

Okay so for context this dog does bark a lot for multiple reasons, like for one example he has abandonment issues and he’ll bark at anyone if they finna leave the house or any room that he currently shares with you, but in my case he growls and barks at me when Im just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. He doesn’t do this to anyone else, just me.

I haven’t abused the dog or mistreated him in any way, I’ve been wondering have I done something to him that makes him act that way, but I can’t think of anything that I may have done. My girlfriend says that he’s jealous and that’s why but I don't know.

It bothers me, it’s like my existence alone bothers him. Which also doesn’t make sense because he does like it when I play with him or pet him. He just doesn’t make any sense to me. If more details are needed just ask because ik all of what I’m saying here prolly isn’t enough.

Ahh man that's weird. Dogs can definitely sense vibes and pick up on how you're feeling sometimes. A couple thoughts on why he might be barking at you:

- Like your girl said, he could totally be jealous cos he sees you as moving in on his territory with her. Dogs get protective of their owners!

- Maybe he picked up on nerves or anxiety from you the first few times you met? Dogs can smell fear literally lol. Could think you're scared of him now.

- Possibly something about your smell or energy just rubs him the wrong way. Dogs are weird like that.

- Could be sensing any tension in your relationship with your girl even if it's super small. They pick up on that pack mentality stuff.

My advice would be try to relax and be super confident around him. Don't make eye contact or seem intimidated. Keep petting and playing with him to build trust. Also have your girl give him lots of love when you're around so he associates you with good things.

Hope it improves man! If not maybe talk to a trainer. As long as he's not biting it's probably just protective behavior, not aggression. Don't take it personal, dogs be dogs.

It knows you have ill intentions, or it’s just jealous. 😉 Dogs are territorial that way. Once upon a time I had a dog that wouldn’t stop humping my girlfriend’s leg. I guess it knew what I wanted and thought it was appropriate.😂 Now, my cat on the other hand couldn’t care less and will lie on the same bed our couch while I’m fucking… 😳🙄
