If my fiance is telling me that he will slow down on his drinking to try for a baby is it usually a lie?

My fiance and i have been trying for a baby for a year and a half. He has a drinking problem and he told me that he will slow down on his drinking to better our chances. however, i don’t believe him. do alcohols usually lie when it comes to those types of stuff?
