Beginning? Did you just crawl out from under a rock, Rumpelstiltskin? LOL.
The war started in earnest in the early 1960s, when Marxist women who called themselves the Red Stockings forcibly took over the Feminist movement, forcibly converting existing leaders or exiling those who wouldn't conform, and immediately began pushing to destroy marriage, the nuclear family, and male-female relationships entirely. This was "sold" as being in the best interests of women, but the leaders actually cared nothing about the best interests of women. Instead, these leaders were "elites" - wealthy, educated, and insulated from the consequences of their decisions, who were looking to destroy the Middle Class, who elites see as their biggest threat.
You see, elites believe that only they should have power - and all of the luxuries that come with power. But they're vastly outnumbered by the middle class, who very annoyingly have the power to vote, and despite how much effort the elites take to stack every election in their own favor (often controlling both sides), and their complete control of the mainstream media, those pesky and dangerous Middle Class can't be counted on to play along, and occasionally dare to vote in their own best interests - such as not having literally everything taken away from them so the elites can enjoy even more luxury and power. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
So, how to destroy the middle class? Why not learn from those who created a political movement based specifically on not allowing a middle class: Marxists. I'm not suggesting that the elites are actually Marxists - EVERYONE knows Marxism can't ever work - but many of the ideas that Marxism tried are very attractive to the elites: secret police, social credit scores, total control over banking and money, and doing everything possible to destroy the middle class, so there are only a few elites and a poor, powerless peasant class to keep the luxuries running for those elites.
One of the problems the elites identified was that the middle class derives a LOT of power from their families. If one family member is weakened or oppressed, their family would rally around them and strengthen them, and that person was much harder to break. As such, the nuclear family needed to be destroyed, and with it, that pillar of middle-class power. This is why the Feminist movement was taken over, and to whatever degree women's interests was being promoted by Feminism, that was replaced by the goals of the elites, with the primary goal of destroying the family.

Some quotes from Feminist leaders:
- Gloria Steinem described marriage as “an arrangement for one and a half people.”
- Andrea Dworkin wrote, “How can anyone love someone who is less than a full person, unless love itself is domination per se?”
- Kate Millett wrote, “so long as every female, simply by virtue of her anatomy, is obliged, even forced, to be the sole or primary caretaker of childhood, she is prevented from being a free human being.”
- Betty Friedan wrote, “women who ‘adjust’ as housewives, who grow up wanting to be ‘just a housewife,’ are in as much danger as the millions who walked to their own death in the concentration camps… they are suffering a slow death of mind and spirit.”
- Linda Gordon said, “the nuclear family must be destroyed… Whatever its ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objectively revolutionary process.”
- Robin Morgan said “We can’t destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage.”
This is what they were saying to each other, in Feminist "safe spaces" in the 70s and 80s. By the 90s, and especially the 2000s, they were much less afraid to make these and even more radical positions public. This war has been going on for decades.

Because of how increasingly common it is for people to feel entitled to have whatever they want. And not just in regards to the opposite sex, but to everything in general. It's definitely not as common as social media would make it, but it is still there and is still a growing problem
