I feel like black people need to have a serious discussion

What has me writing this on a cold Sunday night in winter is a sort of somber love story between Brian Dawkins & his wife.

You might ask why they're important to this take...

I was on Youtube & a long advert for Kay jewelers started to play & it was them. They're a lovely couple & it happened to be the cutest love story about High School sweethearts growing together while Brian was once on his way to becoming a decorated defensive back. They met as teens & eloped in wrinkled t-shirts along with cut off trousers and flip flops which adds lumps of charm to the ad.

But...

I couldn't help but notice that his wife looks very racially ambiguous.

The girl looks more than half cream & about 1/5th coffee.

I don't have a problem with their union but I do have a problem with what this Kay jeweler commercial & all of the other commercials of black folks with non black spouses.

It says a lot about what everyone thinks of black folks!

The world knows we don't find delight in black features!

They might not say it out loud but the ads say it all!

These aren't flimsily put together projects. Anything that costs money to make has research put into it & the research that these white people did on us shows our demographic doesn't like to see 2 dark skinned black folks in love.

Even in the ads that feature two black spouses; the kids are always 4 shades lighter than the parents and look adopted or the mom is a half-breed of some sort!

We're an embarrassment...

You notice that all of the white people look like white people, don't you?

None of them look racially ambiguous or like they might have some Sub-Saharan flowing through them!

And to top it all off Brian's son is with a white girl

Blacks are the world's trash can. We take in all of the humbled degenerates of all races.

Doesn't surprise me and really. . . I think a lot of people are different than me personally in terms of a LOT of things including finding thing sexy. It's not hard to find a woman of any kind sexy as long as she is skinny and has a nice ass.

However, most people aren't LIKE me and there is this DOMESTICATION of Americans. They don't like looking at black outside of music or Hollywood or art. Even in certain mediums, black is scrutinized. (Not talking about race-changing established characters).

There is this sort of lowkey aesthetic narrative being pushed: That black is accepted as a spouse, but white still needs to be involved. It isn't intentional, but people's minds are profoundly affected by the media they consume. This can go one of two ways, a way to end white supremacy by making America more brown, and/or a way to effectively hit the reset button on colorism.

that's not cold feet. that's coming to a realization. you should remember these men were incredibly young, poor, and/or susceptible to influence. malcom x was a convict and the NOI (a violent, racist group) gave him a sense fo community and support. malcom x's opinions changed entirely when he actually went to africa and journeyed to mecca. to suggest that their change of opinion was cold feet rather than wisdom of age and experience isn't actually correct. ali the mature adult said multiple times that his involvement and opinions while in the nation were misguided due to being easily influenced and more or less condemned the NOI

why are you asking me this question? but the reality is he went to mecca and traveled about africa. he realized that the enemy wasn't the other color but a mindset in people regardless of their skin color. to segregate oneself from another is racist and doesn't necessarily solve the problem since you can find people of any color that are part of the problem (like the nation of islam).

I believe that instead of focusing what we see, I believe we should just take action. More so talking about individuals who work within the media entertainment field. I'm studying animation which is in the field of Design Media and production and I plan to help bring and display many people of color especially black women in display.

I also see interracial couples being displayed into commercials, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Instead I believe that black individuals who work within the work place and field of media should strive and continue to help suppot bith genders of the African American community. There are black directors, producers, designers, and animators out there like me. I believe they can understand more on the importance of how displaying or not displaying women of color can effect some of us from childhood to adulthood, than a non- black individual who works within the media field as well. I'm pretty sure you know that the majority of individuals who work within the field of media and entertainment are non-black, which is where I believe that a black director or producer will most likely help display black familys in media.

I've heard people say the exact same things you are as an argument about black couples in the media being a bad thing. "a black person HAS TO be paired with another black person purely because they're black? That's racist!". This was the argument for why black couples being together was a bad thing on tv or in commercials.

If a black man is with a white woman on tv, it's called a bad thing because "why isn't a black woman good enough? Why is the media perpetuating the idea that EVEN BLACK MEN don't find black women attractive?"

This has been happening for years now, but it has recently just become glaringly obvious as of late... especially with that whole Princess and the Frog fiasco. If western media was actually woke they would make movies and advertisements that show black couples as normal people. Instead, they show them as broken and dysfunctional families. When they do show normal black people they are in interracial relationships. I can only assume they do this to appease black folks while also appeasing those who favor diversity.

I guess as a mixed person myself, (White and Mexican), I don't see the issue with whites and blacks mixing and having mixed kids that have combined features. I'm also not too big on Ethnic Identity either, but if black folks want to stay with black folks, that's fine too. But I have heard of people getting judged for marrying out of their race, and I think it's wrong. I believe folks have the individual liberty to be with who they want to be with.
