How much should we fear our government?

On this day, December 29, 1890, one of the worst mass shootings in United States history took place at the hands of State Agents attempting to unjustifiably disarm Lakota people on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

After being called upon, 350 Lakota began their march to the Pine Ridge Agency on December 28. They were met by a 7th Cavalry detachment, which was ordered not to disarm the natives because it would lead to violence. The party brought the Lakota to the nearby Wounded Knee Creek and set up camp for the night.

The following day, after the rest of the 7th Cavalry arrived overnight, the order was given to disarm and remove the Lakota via awaiting trains. During the confiscations, a scuffle broke out between cavalrymen and a deaf and confused young warrior, resulting in the discharge of a rifle and the ensuing battle.

The Lakota were mainly disarmed and vastly outnumbered, thus resulting in the death of more than half their men after the first shots from the cavalry; as the women and children tried to escape, they were hunted down and murdered in cold blood. It is estimated that more than 200 men, women, and children died that day, all because those who controlled the State's reigns feared a supposedly free and independent people with arms that were equal to theirs.

All this over gun confiscation.

If you look at what happened over the last two years I say we should be scared shitless of the government. Depending on what policies can be implemented the whole American way of life can be in peril. We can have runaway inflation, food shortages, and an arbitrary system of justice which favors one group over the other. Eventually private ownership of property can be outlawed and freedoms that we take for granted will be relegated to the history books, that is the history books written before 2020.

I find it very disturbing that people get elected and then consider that they have a "mandate" to enact their platform when in fact people held their noses and considered them slightly less odious than their opponent.

For easy examples just consider the Republicans on abortion and the Democrats on illegal immigration.

We should fear our government for no other reason than we are living in an eventual internment camp. Speaking as a public servant, I feel it is important to state that the people must ALWAYS hold their governments accountable for their actions, inactions and committed injustices.

Governments try their best, but are FAR from perfect, so it is up to the people and the media to keep the politicians accountable and respecthul of the people's desires without the use of violence.

Always have a healthy distrust of the government. Don’t fear them but know they don’t have anyone’s best interest at heart they are an entity out for themselves and using the American people or anyone other person, (not just America but any other country) for there resources. It’s sad
