Can guys and girls be platonic friends?

I ask this question because I have had friends as guys in the past where I had originally thought we were just friends but getting after 3 months those friends start to hit on me and indicate more interest in me which I decline because I only wanted to be friends. They would sooner or later stop talking to me all together.

I like having some male friends as I like to game on the side, I have yet to see another girl gamer but this scenario made me wonder whether guys and girls can stick to being platonic friends, or will it eventually lead to more down the line, or do guys intentionally make girls as friends to move into a romantic relationship?

Yes they can. Do sometimes people catch feelings? Yeah it’s normal. But guys and girls can be friends.

a lot of women simply do not know how to have a platonic relationship with men. Some women are so used to sexually suggestive behaviour with men that they never turn this behaviour off.

Yes of course men and women can be platonic friends. I have many of them. But I've also had platonic lady friends that crossed that line on me. They wanted a platonic friendship with benefits. And you simply CANNOT do that.

Definitely! I have guys that I'm just friends with. No romantic and/or sexual attraction, just completely platonic.

One or both parties have to be unattractive to the other in order for it to work in my opinion.

It's possible, but uncommon. In most male/female platonic friendships the platonic part is one sided, and women typically have no idea.

Only if there is no physical attraction. If there is physical attraction even from one side then no it will never work. Eventually one of the parties will become frustrated that they are just "friends" and nothing more.

Good question. I’ve seen the reverse. Starts out as buddies.. then a few months later she confesses a crush on me or says im someone she wants to date. It’s tough to stay platonic but can happen.
