Does being attracted to someone mean to have romantic intentions?

I have always been curious about this, as I rarely get attracted to people. I just find people more or less interesting than attractive. I have, however, had people say my qualities are very attractive, but I do not know what they imply? I have watched some guys that my friends were interested in saying they found them attractive but nothing was done, or sometimes something happened, but there might be a third party influence in this.

Can someone be attracted to you romantically, or can people be attracted as friends too? I thought through friends, it was "compelling" or "felt drawn to", but that might be the same thing as attraction?

Very often not in my case, or else I would have romantic intentions towards half the women I see on the street! At a beach, I'd be hopeless with romantic intentions for just about every reasonably-attractive woman that bends down.

I can be attracted to complete strangers with no interest of getting to know them. It's just the sort of shallow caveman, "hubba bubba" thing.

I would distinguish that from a deep attraction though. That's a bit more conscious and maybe operating at a different level of the brain and it does come with deep longings of a romantic connection. That's something that requires more effort on my part and I block it out completely now that I'm married. The caveman side I can't find anything to do about except to ignore it.

What is considered "deep attraction"? Personality traits?

It's more in the realm of fantasy for me, like when I allow myself to have a very conscious fantasy of being with someone and feed into it. Like a crush. There would generally be something a lot more to their looks to tempt me that way.

This is a silly food analogy but say I pass by a restaurant and smell something really nice. That's like the caveman thing. But it's easy to ignore and walk on by. What I'm calling "deep attraction" is like I start thinking about that restaurant all the time to the point where I go there, maybe even go out of my way to drive there and go inside.

Or as another example, my wife and I adopted some stray cats off the street. We started feeding them outside our house and became attached to them over time, and both developed very bad health conditions (one broke her hip, another had a case of feline stomatitis so bad that she was no longer able to eat even the wet food we gave her). We ended up rushing them to the vet and after that, we had to keep them in the house for fear that they might not survive another winter outside with the deep attachment we formed to them over time.

So we allowed ourselves to develop a "deep attachment/attraction." Now though after spending a small fortune in vet bills and having two cats inside a relatively teeny Japanese house, we can't afford to fall in love with any more cats. There are so many stray cats in our neighborhood and we still find them all so cute and feed them and all have unique and wonderful personalities, but we limit ourselves to this "shallow attachment/attraction". We prevent ourselves from falling in love with them since we simply can't afford to do so with any more. So we guard the heart that way now against the remaining cats.

It can be a number of things, attraction can be one sided, it can be mutual and both can have a different type of attraction. First of there is non sexual stuff where you find how a person is, what they do, how they interact with others attractive.
then you have emotional attraction, you can get this online and in real, this may or may not be sexual.

then you have sexual attraction, this may just be straight out sexual only or may have or may become emotional attraction as well.

It depends on the situation and the person. For example, I am a happily married woman and I’m very attracted to my husband in every way.

However, I’m a human being and I do find other males attractive. It can be that I find them physically attractive or in an endearing way. It doesn’t mean that I have romantic intentions because of course, I wouldn’t want to do anything behind my husbands back. Strictly speaking, I am attracted to someone I work with. The attraction happened over time, we are close friends and I eventually found myself becoming attracted to him. Again, not wanting anything to happen romantically, I just think he’s a lovely person and I’m very fond of him.

Attraction usually just means you find this person good looking, or physically attractive.

You can find someone physically appealing without having romantic intentions, because romantic interest is about looks and personality/values and compatibility (and anything else you subjectively might look for in a person.) It is not just looks.

And no, usually if I find someone good looking, I don't seek out a friendship either just based on that. Friendship is just about personality/values. Looks don't factor in to friendship.

Being attracted to someone does not mean you're interested in them. I've been attracted to some girls I would never go out with but they're cute. I've also found guys and girls are a little different. Guys Need to have some level attractiveness, just a little not a lot. Looks can bring a guy in but a personality will keep them around. Your personality can make you go from a 6 or 7 to a 9. Girls a lot of times find personality better in the end. I once had a girl say she wasn't attracted to me but wasn't unattractive either but she thought my personality was cute, and if she wasn't taking She would have gone out with me because of my personality alone.

First of all, by romantic intentions do you mean sex? Do you mean wanting to date and to possibly explore a relationship and being a couple?

Guys tend to have 2 types of women. A girl that he may sleep with, she is attractive enough that he'll take the opportunity if it arises but she isn't anything he'll have a relationship with. She isn't attractive enough, she has a deal breaker issue, tattoos or she is promiscuous or drinks too much, she doesn't like her values, she is too argumentative... etc. Then there are girls that he'll make a girlfriend or marry. She is pretty enough, has values he likes, no deal breakers.

So if a girl is attractive to a guy he may be willing to sleep with her. Romantic in the context of a relationship... girlfriend, it usually has to be more than just the physical attraction even though that is very important.

There's different types of attraction. Romantic, platonic, sexual, and asethetic. You can say someone's attractive, but not be attracted to them. But to answer your question, yes you can be attracted to someone and have a desire to just want to be friends with them.

When a woman shows interest in a man, we will automatically think her interest is romantic.


Relationships can start off as friendships and turn into more but if she only desires a platonic relationship, she needs to communicate that to him so no feelings are developed. If he can handle being only your friend will ultimately be up to him.


Everyone has a choice whether or not to walk away from relationships/friendships if needed.

People usually mean attractive in a romantic/sexual sense and I would generally assume that someone using that word meant it in a romantic way. I have heard people use it in platonic ways too though. They usually specify when they're using it platonically.

I have female friends I consider attractive and wouldn't want to date them or get romantically involved.
