Why would film critics and the average consumer have to agree with each other? Most of the population loves shitty art. Just look at mainstream music - it's mostly utter trash, yet it sells *by far* the most. So?
Yes, but so have the movies. When all movies are bad the critics will like the movies that aren't quite as bad as the others, hence the very generous reviews for lame ass movies like Black Panther and that Sea Creature Thing. I don't remember the title but you know the one I mean.

They view them differently to most cinema goers. They're looking objectively for things like artistic merit, plot quality etc. Cinema goers are just as likely to base their opinion on how good the accompanying pop corn was. I read an article on film critics where one said he spends to much time analysing the film to actually relax and enjoy it, perhaps that's the real reason opinion differs. Or you could say it's like how MacDonald burgers get slated by critics yet they still sell billions.
Film critics are not meant to be considered en bloc. That's like trying to categorise all music in the same way. The idea is that you find one or more that have similar tastes and values as you and you follow their opinions.
What do you think directors / movie producers do? They analyze movies, critics, other people's credible opinions before making a movie of their own. That's how you get better at making movies.
@BagoH No it isn't. Nobody reads critics. If someone wants an opinion on a film, they ask somebody they know and whose opinion they respect, not some blubberous fuckwit with a novelty mustache.
@BagoH Everybody's a critic by some definition or another, but I'm talking about people who put "film critic" on their tax returns. The ones who take themselves seriously.
Critics are pompous cunts who think their opinion matters. That said, I do watch some critics who like align to mine, which means that if they like it, I will like it. I mean it's just a movie, not life choices.
Film critics haven’t had much credibility for many years. They consistently demonstrate through their reviews how out of touch they are with moviegoing audiences.
Where's the simple, and correct, option of "no." Not, "No but I think film critics have excessively high standards" ... they don't have any higher standards now than they've ever had. No vote.
Who gives a damn about what some whiny prick in a manbun with glasses sipping his 20$ latte thinks about a movie? These dipshits have zero knowledge on literature, character development, story-telling, etc.
I liked Bright great premise it need to be a t. v. sereus first then a movie. we needed to learn more about the world. BUT BRIGHT is a rip off of training day and Fifth element
Rambo was awesome brutality. It was pretty much what you expect from Rambo. And he is tight about that. It got like 6/10 from critics but 90% of people who saw it liked it.
@OfDeath It has the same spirit as the first film and the 4h film. I despise the Myanmar government and it was refreshing, if only a fantasy to see someone stand up to them.
It's not recent years, it's been since producers have been able to lobby for their particular film that we get academy winners that haven't even made their production cost back.

Too many critics went woke and started reviewing movies based on their own personal political beliefs and not what the movie portrays.

How can they lose what they never had in the first place?

I think the person posting this doesn't really analyze movies like critics do. It's a whole another level.
Basically i agree with what you wrote here @purplepoppy
@BagoH And I don’t think you realize that film critics have been criticized for their faulty methods of criticizing movies.
@purplepoppy In other words movie critics are unreliable for determining how good a movie actually is.
Lol of course it's normal for a critic to be wrong... It makes sense doesn't it?
I wonder who those reliable critics were?
@BagoH Very few critics are reliable. They are definitely not “Rotten tomatoes”.
Yea i thought Google critics were reliable... 🤦♂️🤦♂️ IMDB is the only place i go for ratings.
@ADFSDF1996 A movie critic can only tell you whether they liked the movie or not. They can't tell if you will like it.

I don't know if you kids realize this, but critics have NEVER had any credibility.
Do you really think people ever cared what Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel thought?

A critic can be someone they know lol. I mean you're stating the obvious...

I mostly have never gone by what the critics say about a movie.
It seems as if they are paid adhere to these weird and unnecessary politically correct standards.
This deserves best answer
When they give the Disney Star Wars movies good ratings I am disgusted by them.
Which very obviously shows us they're not credible anymore

I give a shit about other's opinion when it comes to what I like and what I don't like. So: 'critics' simply don't count for me.
I liked Bright great premise it need to be a t. v. sereus first then a movie. we needed to learn more about the world.

I wasn't aware they ever had any to START with!
Most of the time, if they didn't like a movie, it was one that I ultimately enjoyed.
These movies listed are all pretty bad. Bright was hilariously bad.
The only film I agree is bad is ghost busters. Which I clearly said was a bad film.
As for the rest of the films, they are probably just not your cups of tea.
Rambo was awesome brutality. It was pretty much what you expect from Rambo. And he is tight about that. It got like 6/10 from critics but 90% of people who saw it liked it.

Film critics are brilliant. I mean there are not many careers where you can get paid to be ignored by your target audience.
