I fail to see it as to me, they're just random people with the same last name, nothing more by default, at least.
I see all the time when a family member who was involved in a critical incident with law enforcement, the family members frequently fail to see it any other way than their family member did nothing wrong. It just seems cult like and to me only demonstrates that they didn't know their family member as well as they think they did.
I've been declining family time a lot lately because it's not enjoyable and I'd rather catch up on sleep than go sit down with drunk people. There are some activities we sometimes do that are enjoyable but 9/10 times, they're already drunk and now we can't do any of those activities together.
My long distance girlfriend is showing a very high level of loyalty to her family and it's interfering in our relationship. Her parents are divorced and she lives with her mom and 2 brothers. She goes grocery shopping, drives everyone to and from school/work, all housework, laundry, dishes, cooking and she also does school and work full time.
This leaves very little time for me and her to talk and she hasn't told her parents because she knows they're totally insane with being protective. Although she's told me that she cares little what they think as our love is ultimately nobody's business but our own, but she doesn't want to get kicked out and then her brothers would be on their own.
I've talked with a cousin of hers and even won over his support although he stated that he was doubtful she'd pack her bags and leave her brothers for me before they can fend for themselves, to which I replied that I'd be open to moving there or moving her and her brothers in with me once I start my career and get a house.
When I move out, my parents likely won't hear from me for a very long time as they're narcissistic and really don't want me to succeed. You can see why I find myself questioning this family loyalty, explain?
