Do you have any examples of genuinely good women and men in your life (serious)?

A few posters on here, including one user, @Summeroflove, have said that we are all way too negative here on GAG, and I'm just as guilty of that as anyone else, if not sometimes more so. I agree with him, we are too negative sometimes. So here's a positive post. I'm asking this in good faith:

Do you know any genuinely good women or men in your real, offline life? If so, how are they good people? What do they do that makes them good?

I don't have any examples to give here, so I hope you can come up with some good ones!

Sure, the first one that comes to mind off the top of my head, is I had my first car and was driving by myself into the city and it was a light weight piece of crap that slide all over the place, and I slid off the road in the blizzard. A few miles outside the city, no cell phone service.

I could of froze to death, of course my dad always insists on blankets in the car, which I had, so who knows, I did have a quarter tank of gas too.

Not only that, it is pretty rural so not a lot of traffic and this guy stopped and offered to help. He put a rope on and pulled me back to the main road and then followed me into the first exit to the gas station to make sure I made it there safely.

As a result, I try to help people that are stuck in mud or snow too these days.

I know that is a one time thing, but I was scared when he came up. He could of done bad things and no one was around to stop.

My family is all awesome too, my parents and siblings. Any one of them would help me out if I called and said I needed help. When I lived in Vegas my dad would drive all day down to help me move furniture with my brother.

There is no way I'd still be alive without my family being so great.

I try to be helpful too, as I volunteer at the rape crisis center many times, and still do.

This last year, I met a girl who was in a real bad situation, she was doing door dash and not making it, and was virtually starving and would go back to her abusive ex who would pay her 20 dollars for sex that she didn't want to do but she'd go 3 or so days without eating before doing that.

I let her move in with me and within a few months we were awesome friends and she went through several jobs but found a good one finally that she can do working remote and is more stable now than she has ever been. She wasn't paying rent at first but eventually was able to and even paid for the first few months when I said she didn't have to.

Then there is my neighbor, who will get on his tractor in a blizzard and go plow the dirt road for me, such a sweet old man. He also watches from a distance and will check on me to make sure I'm okay, now and then.

The thing about living in a rural area is that people will go out of their way to help you. In the city there is a good chance somebody will stick a knife in your gut and steal your wallet

@exitseven There is definitely a difference, having grown up rural and living rural now but living in several big cities. Big cities are vicious.

I think I'm surrounded by good people.

When I first got to Korea my "sponsor" went above and beyond of what a sponsor usually does. He showed me around, taught me how to travel, took me out for my birthday even though we weren't allowed and bought me a cake.

My other two coworkers were sweet, took me out as well, introduced me to Seoul, would exercise and cook with me. They're now in Germany and Italy and opened their homes for when I visit.

When I lived in Alaska I received a lot of love as well. I had FWD and people would literally leave work to help dig me out even though it was my day off... Then yell/lecture me out of love.

One of my favorite people took great care of me in AK. Even when I moved to Korea we would make sure to check in with each other every week or 2. This man is always on my side, but nags, yells, and scolds me when I need to be scolded. He makes sure I'm prepared for the future and spits the truth at me.

The people I'm surrounded by/have encountered are very considerate and caring. They give advice and encourage me to be strong, kind, and the best that I can be. My job tries to scare people to deter them from getting out, but the men and women in my life have sent nothing but good vibes. They send encouragement and believe we can do anything we put our mind to.

Even with me being in Korea and still not being able to speak Korean. Everyone is kind. I watched too many youtube videos and expected the old people to be mean because of my skin color, but they've been the absolute fucking sweetest. I get lost and confused and the elders come to check if I'm okay and help me even though I can't speak their language.

I think it depends on the city/country dynamic, like Aerissa Jade said. When I lived in Seoul (Songpa/Jamsil) in late 2020, the people there were ASSHOLES. Not that I wasn't expecting it, considering it's the New York of Korea. But in my current area (Suwon), the people are nicer cause it's much much smaller. Big cities tend to bring out the jerkiness in people, it seems.

Whenever I visit Seoul though people have been sweet. I think people were the absolute sweetest at Jeju though.
We go to Suwon a lot too and when I first got there people were nice too and helped me out when I didn't understand won.

Yes, I do.

Me: I bought an Xbox One and games for one of my former students years ago when I was working in an after school program. They were a good person, but were poor so when I had some money saved I thought that would be a good thing to do for someone that deserved it.

During the lockdowns a few years ago I bought food for one of my former student's family for a few months when I was a school bus driver.

Other people: When falsely accused of something, 4 friends that are girls (not girlfriend) stood up for me as witnesses. Also had another girl co worker stand up for me another time during another false accusation by another girl co worker. One time a student actually fought another student for trying to spread lies about me when they heard about one of the false accusations before too.

One guy friend that I met as a bus driver helped me put together a new mountain bike that I got when my back was messed up so we could ride together once I recovered.

I had a girl supervisor that investigated and eventually fired another co worker that was angry that I wasn't interested in her and she tried to sabotage my job, plus she trashed my classroom once (desks dumped out and tipped over in classroom and supplies thrown around the room), plus getting her students to cuss at my students and she called them losers in the cafeteria. At least my supervisor at the time was good enough to investigate and have cameras checked at the school to determine what actually happened. That other girl did cuss her out though when she was being fired.

Sounds like you've worked with a lot of good people *and* psychopaths.
My co-teachers are so-so; not bad people, but not super great either. Just in the middle. They just treat it as a job. Maybe they're "good enough" but I'm unsure if they see me as a friend, especially after this depressing pre-Christmas when they were all too busy to barely even accept my presents.

Thanks. Yes absolutely. I think it’s just a sign of the times that there is less good people then there used to be. Around where I live there is MANY good people.

It’s easy to become demoralized especially in cesspools like GAG can be sometimes unfortunately with all the trolls, perverts, and just outright degenerates.

Many times online those are just the people who yell the loudest and not the majority of people. I know I’m not going to convince most people they’re wrong. But we as good people also need to be a voice

Sounds like if you personally don't have any examples.. you may need a change of scenery, new friends, or perhaps look in the mirror and figure out why you aren't attracting good people and take accountability. Harsh, yes.. but everyone should do it.

My best friend is the kindest person you will meet. She IS a good person.. and not just because she is nice. She is empathetic, cares and helps without looking for likes or recognition, she respects most elders for their wisdom and experience, she gives when she can, she tries to fight polarization and generalizing online to give people hope based on her positive experiences (all while dealing with jerks that take things wrong and only see what they want to see). Every week she goes to the shelter and helps out, not expecting anything in return. She's been cheated on and played with but she gave forgiveness and tried to understand. She's worked hard since she was 12 and picked on by men and women about it but she always just smiled because she knew it was the right thing to do for her and society. She tries to make everyone come together. She is a truly good person and unfortunately I see the bad people try to take advantage of her good soul or try to bring her down to their miserable level. I see the hate in this world eat her alive daily and it's quite sad and undeserving.

My best friend in the world - Jomar. He's been my friend since elementary school and best friend since middle school. He's the type that will always make sure you have something to eat and drink when you come over even if he just met you.

One of my female coworkers is one of the kindest people I know. She's effectively my work mom and made sure I felt welcome when I first started at this company

My girlfriend is kind, feminine, hard working (we both have to work to get by), does not take her frustrations out on others, very feminine, and not concerned with feminist obsessions about power dynamics in the relationship. And @MCheetah, in addition to all this she is 100% super-straight.

At least one of my friends is a good person. She cares about people and animals wellbeing, even ones she doesn't like, and goes out of her way to help when she is able. Also she is trying to improve herself. So I think she's a good person.

I used to work with somebody who was the smartest person I ever met. He was an IT manager but knew about not just computers but also cars, gardening, home repairs and many other things. Not only was he smart but also generous and kind.
