What actually does it mean when someone calls you “special friend”?

There is this guy I talk almost everyday. We are not in a relationship and when I want to get closer he rejects and calls me as a special friend. Do you have any opinion?

It usually depends on context.

In this scenario and by the previous logic I usually follow, I would guess he views most of his friendships with ladies as potentially sexual, and if that were the case, he may or may NOT always take them seriously.

He probably calls you special because in this case you’re an exception, and he has a more ‘logical’ relationship/friendship with you.

He’s not exactly going by impulse or so, and trying to be more mature and have a good thing aside from sexuality.

Guys love sexuality but if they find a good friend who just happens to be female, but brings out a good quality to them or their lives, and they don’t feel too crazy on their physical circuits, then that’s something they don’t necessarily wish to ruin.

Maybe later he could catch “feelings,” but I don’t think that’s evident here.

Usually guys won’t pursue a sexual relationship with a woman if they believe something more beneficial is there in the midst that they don’t get all the time or everywhere/ anywhere else.
