How often do guys talk to girls they're interested in?

I met this guy and I thought he was really cute. I have no idea what he thinks of me though. We don't see each other much at all and we don't have a lot of friends in common or anything.

I'm just curious, if he is interested, how likely is it that he will approach me in some way to get to know me better? I'm not saying I'm not willing to put in any effort or anything to get to know him, I just would like to gauge where he's at and if he is interested as well

So, basically, if a guy is interested in a girl, is it likely that he will make some kind of effort to get to know her better? Or do guys often times let it go and don't make that type of effort?

Its not about what "guys do". Its about what each person does because everyone's different. There are plenty of girls who are wayyy more forthcoming than 99% of guys. And obviously there are guys who wouldn't hesitate to say something. I see it like this:

The average guy (18-24) attends college and will probably see lots of attractive women on and off campus. The factor that determines if he will talk to her depends on the fact that he has the time and motivation to do so.

Taking into consideration an infinite amount of circumstances that might affect whether or not he will talk to you simply over complicates your question. But your also asking a question that no one could answer, no one knows what this guy is like, whether or not he's shy, too busy to make small talk, or simply feeling not motivated for personal reasons.

If you want to know whether or not he likes you, all you can really do is try and make an effort to make eye contact and smile. You literally have nothing to lose doing this. Just try to initiate something if you don't like waiting for something to happen. Simple as that! Then you'll know. :)

I'm sure you know that most guys are much more shy than girls...just the way it is...most guys that do approach girls, do it at bars or parties or somewhere where they have "liquid courage" to make it easier. Not having any friends in common makes it harder for you to find out on the sly, but one thing you could do, is to go up and tell him a group of your friends are going out (for party, bar, game, whatever) and invite him to go along if he wants. It's not like asking him on a date, but joining your friends for a night out. Even though it's not a date, he probably won't go, unless he's interested in you, if he says yes, he probably is and wants to get to know you better, if not, you don't lose anything, as it was just an invite to join your friends. Go for it.

Guys will most of the time not always approach a girl they are interested in. Not because they don't have confidence though.

It's because they think she might either be taken. Or because she isn't giving him any attention, he will think she isn't interested.

The guys that DO always approach a girl they are interested in, approach EVERY girl they are interested in. And do pay very little attention to signs.

This means they will get rejected often, but also SOMETIMES get a mutual interest.

If a guy approaches every woman it takes a lot of sustained effort. And personally I have given up on that.

If a girl is not interested enough in me to make it known (which I must admit, probably happens more often than we think), I will just think she is not interested.

In other words, guys think like girls. Except the guys who don't really give a sh*t and approach every single girl out there.

Not very likely, unless the situation is somehow created or presents itself. Perhaps make yourself present within his realms, sort of the way when you first had contact with him. I take you don't want to be too bold or forward unless you can tell he's interested. Does he have a girlfriend? Many guys now days are weary of women. Women can get them in trouble, often merely due to their emotional state. I guess my best advice is to be a friend, if possible, and go from there. Find like interests. Depends on the situation. Rejection is no fun for anyone. Your best bet is to find situations where you can interact and flirt with him. It's low risk for you and if he's interested he'd be more likely to make a move. If he's not, you might end up getting him interested. Win-win. This is the time-honoured way for girls to signal their interest and gauge/encourage the guy.

If you just can't find situations where you can flirt, just ask him out. Be relaxed about it and take it from there.

depends on the guy and his personality. I'm the kind of guy that would probably just let it go even if I was extremely interested. It's one of the main reasons why my ex girlfriend initiated everything. I asked her about it later and she just said that she knew it would never happen otherwise lol

This intriguing question has been asked maybe 200 dozen times but if a guy is really shy then he might not ever get the balls to talk to her but in most cases if a guy likes a girl he will approach her.

I tend to agree. As some have pointed out - a shy guy probably actually LIKES and CARES about the girl. A guy who has no problem talking to girls probably doesn't care about them. Of course, there are exceptions. But also, of course, who are girls going to say "yes" to? Can't say "yes" to someone who doesn't ask, right.
