Why does a girl deny that she likes a guy, even when she really does likes him a lot and has fallen for him?

I have a friend who told me she likes this guy that I know. She also shows a lot of signs of attraction and that she has fallen for him and is quite into him. And since I know him she was worrying me a lot to get this guy to ask her out. But when this guy confronted her himself and asked her if she really did like and fell for him, she started denying everything and said it was all a joke we were trying to play on him. Can't understand why is she doing that. She is also extremely shy to talk to this guy. Once when they accidentally made eye contact she freaked - out as if she saw a ghost and hurriedly faced her head downwards to look away. And the guy is also quite hot, who all the girls dig.

if this guy is a popular, hot, wanted guy, and she is shy and timid.. she might be affraid to get hurt. well if you must know this girl isn't normally shy and timid. She's goes out a lot, parties, drinks, very independent, drives really well, even in an SUV, daringly cutting through traffic, makes and clicks with tons of friends who find her extremely cool. Has huge and great sense of humor and personality. Very jovial. And quite confident while dealing with people and she's a really nice girl whose nice to every one. Its only with this guy that she's extremely shy to talk to or interact with. And

And even after that when I told her that I was heading over to the gaming parlor that he owns without mentioning his name, she asked me whether it was his parlor that I was heading to and still show signs of interest.

hahaha... that's funny but it's true! we are definitely like that.. well.. it's probably because we don't have that much of confidence in ourselves and we are not yet ready.. we tend to be hoity-toity that we can't face the guy we like.. and deny we like the guy... and we try not to look so suspicious but we do look one without noticing it..

in other words, we can't face a guy we like so directly and comfortably... UNLESS we are ready and we have a lot of confidence in ourselves..
