Why is he being awkward?

I met this guy at the office recently. Sometimes when we are only alone he smiles when he sees me but when there are people around he is all serious. Two days ago we were at the elevator and he asked me a question (just general) I replied and then we stayed awkwardly in silence and he was fidgeting with his headphones, looking down and almost missed his stop. When he was leaving he said “have a good day” and that’s it. It’s always a bit awkward with him and I started asking myself whether he likes me or he’s just shy person. Even though he doesn’t look shy at all…

That's not always true. I dated a guy I was working in an office with. He and I always had great dates. Always laughing, made love, etc.
Then the next day at work he'd take some other young lady to lunch and I would find out about it. Like, why did he invite her and not me? Asshole! So, after watching him hitting on all the girl's in the office, I used to call him The Snake In The Grass. My boss knew all about us and he nicknamed him Brain Damage. In fact, we called him those two names for so long, one day my boss asked me his real name because he had forgotten it 🤗

What do you expect him to be saying to you?

For example: “hey there, I like you, let’s date” or if he doesn’t like me to say: “hey I’m overall awkward, anything I do doesn’t mean I like you, I don’t like you at all”
Life would be much easier if man did that
