Fat is ugly? What's your opinion about this?

Okay, so my parents have been bugging me to lose weight because I'm so big and blah. TAKE NOTE: I am a size 12. I'm actually proud that I'm a plus-size but my parents keep on telling these statements: "you're just kidding yourself" or "you don't want to regret being in that body and not being able to lose weight while you're still young"

I know I'm overweight but I honestly don't see the point of losing weight. I'm not going to audition for a bikini contest anyway. Now, don't tell me losing weight is good to be fit. It's just another depiction of beauty to promote gyms.

So...tell me your thoughts about how society and the media portrays "fat" being another term for "ugly"

Weight and dress size are really only relative... whether you are attractive at that weight or not depends on other issues, like where and how you carry the weight.

Some girls can be a size 12 and look fantastic; they're voluptuous with big boobs and hips and still have a defined waist and nice curves. Other girls can be the same size and weight, but if they've got fat arms, thunder thighs, and a fat stomach because that's where THEY carry the weight, then they're going to be considerably less attractive.

So, at the end of the day, what's important is shape rather than "size", at least up to a point. Beyond a certain point, everyone is too heavy and needs to lose weight (and I'm a fat guy, so I'm including myself too).

Not every girl needs to be "skinny" to be attractive, and many guys really like voluptuous women, and many girls have dieted and worked out far beyond reason, until they are an unattractive bag of bones. But, many women ARE too fat to be attractive to all but a handful of men. That's the cold, hard truth. I have no idea what you look like, or where you are on the attractiveness scale, but, really, you should be able to look in the mirror and figure out if you need to lose weight or not. No one is saying you need to be a Size 2, but maybe your ideal size would put you in a Size 8, and maybe you're just fine in a 12. I don't know, but I would ask some people around you for their honest opinion, not just your parents. If other people are telling you to lose some weight, then maybe they have a point.

I'd focus more on having an active lifestyle. You diminish your quality of life by being out of shape and later on down the road a sedentary lifestyle will bring you nothing but health misfortune. We put poison in our bodies every day from the foods we eat to the air we breath and the only way to work those poisons our are through healthy diet and exercise.

There's so much more at stake by being overweight and not exercising than just physical appearance. It's your very life on the line. That's why type 2 diabetes is proportionately increased with the average rate of obesity in America. This stuff isn't just scare tactics.

Sizes are really irrelevant because body shape has a lot to do with what you can fit into. I'll say when I was at the complete high end of my bmi I was a size 12 but still I was within my BMI and not "Fat" or at least clinically overweight, but that's because of my hips. But some people are overweight at a size 12 but still a size 12 usually doesn't constitute for what most people think of as fat, usually its someone we see as very average. Doesn't plus size start at 14 btw? Atleast that's what I thought.

Anyway they really shouldn't care much about your size. Now if you have a sedentary lifestyle then hitting the gym at least 3 times a week for about 40 minutes wouldn't be a bad idea you don't have to try to lose weight just get more active. But if you are active and eating alright I wouldn't let it bother you.

Besides fat doesn't mean you're ugly, now facially its about symmetry, physically about a well proportioned body (hourglass), and more importantly its about a balance of being confident and humble. At least that's how it should be seen.

In some places the fatter you are the more attractive you are. It is considered a sign of good heath.  Now obviously that is not always true. Its the same as people thinking a tan is a sign of good heath or being really thin. I say the most beautiful person is someone who sees themselves as beautiful. For example I know a lady when the first time I saw her I was like "O_O That is big!" but then I got to know her. She was actually really sick and thin when she was little. When she got better she put on weight really fast! But her whole childhood she was made fun of for being skinny and sickly so she really likes her size. I have seen her with some ripped macho men, highly respected business men and a few gorgeous women. (She doesn't believe in settling down or limiting herself just yet). The most important thing is she has always been a strong independent (financially and emotionally). A while back I introduced her to a friend and later he said he was surprised I didn't mention her weight. I had just told him she was beautiful with a huge personality.

For one thing, you sound like you have a healthy self-esteem which is awesome in itself. I don't think your parents should be saying stupid things like that, but I think they are under the impression that it will motivate you to lose weight. In any event, the only reason why losing weight should be of crucial importance is to maintain your health, as being overweight is a prime contributor to heart disease, cancer and other diseases. In order to lead a longer life, one must take into account that maintaining a healthy weight is important.

it depends upon 1s ideology and attitude ...sometimes fat people carry themselves quite well...i remember wen I was fat I was not depressed and all I liked that moment but it was during my childhood days... wen I grew up I felt like losing weight and put on muscles with abs and all ...it took me 2 years to get ripped... I'm happy ...i do indulge in sweets and other fast foods once in a blue moon...but let me tell you its not bad to be fat ...but you shld try to loose weight since its bad for your health there are risks of diabetes and cardiovascular problems you may loose weight for that's sake ..no need for size 0 etc just bring your bmi to normal that's it!

Taking care of your health, in terms of making sure you're regularly physically active and make sure you eat well most of the time (gotta treat yourself to goodies sometimes!)...

Why wouldn't you want to LOOK and FEEL better physically, mentally, and emotionally? You say this stuff to psyche yourself out because losing your excess weight because it's not easy.

I personally think curves are beautiful.

to me, you seem fine. Not obese.

Look at jennifer hudson. And jennofer lopez. And beyonce. Theyre curvy women

And theyre beautiful. Marilyn monroe was a curvy woman.

They embrace their curves. But society makes women think they need to be thin to be beautiful.

but in reality, women are SUPPOSED to have meat on them. If you're naturally skinny, that's fine. If you're naturally curvy, great.

Just be healthy and happy.

I wouldn't call a size 12 fat lol. But I know how you feel... I'm a size 9 and well in my healthy weight, but my family (dad especially) keeps pressuring me to lose pounds. My mom is okay; she just wants me to be healthy (because I don't have healthy habits but am miraculously not overweight), but my dad wants me to be skinny.

If you're comfortable in your body, that's all that matters. As long as your weight doesn't give you health problems, don't worry about it.

Fat isn't ugly, but it can be, and sometimes it hides the actual beauty. I have a friend who I consider over weight, but I still think she is super cute and beautiful. Now I have pictured with her sisters stature who is a more average person, and I can honestly tell you that guys/men would be falling head over hills in front of her. So no, fat isn't ugly, but it can hide the actual beauty.

That said, size 12 is definitely NOT fat, and as a matter of fact is in the range of ideal, the only problem is to watch out for if you have a tendency to actually go fat, maybe hereditary conditions or something like that. If you stay a 12, it's beautiful.

My ex fiance was a size 16, the way I look at it, is if your the pretty fat, not ugly fat. The same can be said for skinny women. There are plenty of girls I know, that have great bodies, but are just ugly. I don't think there is anything wrong with being plus sized, more often than not I prefer it :) Be happy with who you are, and the size that you are, but, if it starts to become un-healthy, and you are dangerously overweight, then lose weight. But if that doesn't happen you are perfect :)

I wouldn't call a size 12 "fat," but regardless, fat isn't objectively ugly. It may be "undesirable" to a lot of people, but who really cares? Once people grasp the concept that you can weigh a lot even though you live a healthy lifestyle, what's the excuse for looking down on it so much? It becomes about how attracted you are to a person, and not being attracted to someone isn't a reason to be a d*** to them.

being fat does not affect how pretty you really are, some fat girls have a real pretty face but her being 3 times bigger than the guy is a deal breaker. (to most)
I've seen enough fat girls that would be dem hoties if they could get rid of their weight issue.

I believe people thinking people at a healthy weight are more attractive is just part of natural selection. We want to make our offspring healthy and fit.

That said, I believe that people can have some beautiful aspects of them while overweight, but people are most attractive when they are their healthiest.

Being at an unhealthy weight puts you at risk for a number of health conditions that will develop overtime. It also can cause unbalance with your hormones.

I used to be overweight (obese in fact) but not that I am fit I feel great! My body feels more balanced and I have a lot more energy now.

No offense, I really don't mean to tear you down, but...I don't think fat is ugly, it's just not very attractive. Fat isn't going to make someone ugly, but there's something very appealing about a body that is IN SHAPE and healthy. Especially when it comes to sex. You should work out because it's good for your physical health and emotional health :) Also if you want children, it will add onto the pounds and it could make you feel really self concious one day

It really really depends. Some guys are very very grossed out by fat chicks. Like, they call them whales and make fun of them. It is pretty hilarious (lol). Normally the hot/top tier guys do this to fat girls who would even dare to think of them in a romantic way. Lets be real. There is a difference between a fat girl, and a curvy girl. You aren't curvy, you are just one big curve.

But then you have your other guys who have a huge fat fetish. People normally make fun of them, well, because fat people are gross sometimes. But hey, at least you'd get some! You should be happy these guys even exist! Then you'd really want to lose some weight.
