Why is my girlfriend so mad with me? birthday blues?

This year for my girlfriends birthday I made a particular effort not to ruin it for her as birthdays are special to her. I'm studying at the moment however, so I decided to go study for the morning and early afternoon so I could take the evening off with her.

She asked me at noon if I'd like to go shopping to which I responded that I would prefer to stay studying so that I wouldn't feel guilty about taking the evening off with her.

So anyway at 4 o clock or so, just as I had finished for the day, her manager called asking her if she'd work, which she did, despite knowing I was going to take her out.

She went to work and portrayed me to her manage as an asshole who treats her like sh*t (simply because I didn't open my schedule for the day for her) and they went on to bitch about me calling me names for the evening.

That evening when she finished work, I surprised her by collecting her and taking her to get a bit of fast food as it was midnight.

When I dropped her home she wouldn't even take any of the presents I had got her. I promised her to take her out for a proper dinner during the week.

The next evening, her and her manager discussed the presents resulting in her believing that "I don't know her" and me "not caring enough about her"

She got a lift home that night at 3 in the morning from her manager.

I think I treat my girlfriend exceptionally well. I do all I can for her and everything.

We haven't spoken since her birthday despite everything being great up until then. Its 5 days since this and I really feel like we're drifting apart and that our relationship (of 2 years) is coming to an end.

Any advice from anyone on what they think might be going on?

Sounds to me like she is making excuses to try and sabotage the relationship. You are working hard at school, and you promised her the evening ahead of time (did not simply forget her birthday), got her gifts, and promised to (make it up to her) even though she was the one who decided to foil her own birthday night with you by going into work.

Now I don't have two sides of the story, but from the sounds of it, she was looking for a reason to get out of it for one reason or another.

You sound like someone who is focused on goals (like school) and she sounds a bit more high maintenance, like she wants all of your time.

Dump that snarky bitch, she's probably shagging her boss anyways. She has ni honour to publicly disrespect you like that, and for such a dumb reason.

It might be a good thing. Any girl who would make a fuss about you studying instead of spending the entire day with her is immature. She's childish, selfish, and has no thought for the future. You are studying...making an effort to make a good life in the future and she's complaining about not having her way. Would she rather you be her lapdog and flunk out? She's probably leave you then for someone who makes more money. She's not the forever girl you need. Get someone who understands you and can make a few compromises.

Well maybe she feels that you give your school work more attention than her. Some girls need a lot of attention and love, because maybe they don't get enough from their family. She may want more love and devotion. Tell her you love her and that you are sorry even though you did nothing wrong. Girls like it when they're right. So give her something she really loves. Flowers, cards, anything.

That's really bad advice. No offense. But this will 100% have the reverse effect. Girls THINK they want to always be "right" and be sucked up to day and night. But they lose all respect for any man who ACTUALLY DOES IT. A man should never apologise if he's done no wrong. And her behavior as described in OP suggests some fucked up shit going on her end, he should not encourage this sort of behavior by REWARDING it with more attention and "devotion".

I a bit understand your girlfriend. Maybe she is a type of people who are very sensitive about their Birthday. That would be my case. I think you both need to discuss how each of you prefer to spend Birthdays and what expectations you have? Some people love to celebrate big their Birthdays, others don’t really care. I think she will calm down in a while, but talking to her and asking why she felt bad and what did she want would always be good option.
I understand that your studying is very important to you, but it might be that only on that day she wanted you to postpone it and spend all day on her.
Personally, I feel more important about spending breakfast and afternoon together on my Birthday than evening, maybe that would be the case for her too.

Sounds like relationship as peaked and reached its end. She probably has someone else lined up and waiting for the right time to end it.
