How do you "accidentally" cheat on your partner?

Question

I've read this so many times on this site - that someone ACCIDENTALLY cheated on their boyfriend or girlfriend or whatever. How the fuck does that even happen? Did they trip and fall, then land right on the other person's genitals or something?

To me they're all just cheaters in complete denial or trying to justify cheating with a ridiculous excuse.

They're just trying to justify their cheating, shifting any blame on it having been out of their control in some magical way therefore not resulting from a premeditated choice.

If you read the occasional post on here from someone asking for help after htey cheated on their s/o, you can often see how little to no blame them put on themselves right from the get-go. Often including that their partner hadn't been getting them to climax during sex, had gone away for whatever reason leaving the cheater oh so sexually frustrated, etc.. Then shifting to how they by 'complete chance' ran into a friend they hadn't seen for years with whom they'd always shared 'amazing chemistry'. Then on an ill-fated day, one of them slipped on a banana and by complete chance fell on this friend's dick.

(As you can see, I have zero patience for people like this. So in my opinion, there's no 'accidental' cheating. If you cheat, no one pushed for that to happen but yourself.)

I actually knew a guy and a girl who accidentally cheated... she was asleep with the light off and had been drinking more or less all night... he was 12 sheets to the wind and stumbled into the room and over to the wrong bed (his girlfriend was out), the girl in bed thought that it was her boyfriend who was supposed to come over. Half way through he said something and she pushed him off... they were both mortified -lol.

There is no such thing as "accidentally" cheating. Cheating is a choice, and you have the option to say "no". Unless you were raped, which doesn't even constitute as cheating, there is no way that it is "accidental" or justifiable. You can learn from it and not do it again, but you can't justify it.

I guess if is like a kiss. Like you know some guy or girl was attracted to them and randomly kissed them and lust took over for a bit but then they stop. But that is if a kiss is cheating. Lol I don't know thats my rationalisation for accidental cheating so i am probably not making any sense :P

I saw an episode once, can't remember what program. There was a masked ball and she wanted to go but he didn't so he stayed home and she went. During the evening, he changed his mind and decided to join her, but her, being bored and feeling lonely decided to go back home. Once there, he joins a woman who he thinks is his wife (same costume) and they play like they don't know each other and have sex. He only discovers he cheated once back home. The way it was portrayed, it made sense. The chances of this happening though... lol

Anyone who is says that is just making excuses and is trying to get away with their act by portraying themselves as innocent and it's totally illogical.

There is nothing like " accidental cheating", you don't cheat on someone accidentally. that is just not possible. I am sure you know cheating is not a mistake, cheating is "a choice"', it's "decision", the person chose to cheat on you, and that's an unforgivable act, irrespective to the circumstances, situations and the reasons given by the person who is cheating.

I think the word ACCIDENTALLY is just sloppy thinking on their part. What they are doing is minimizing the magnitude of their betrayal by saying that it happened unintentionally.

Think of the distinction between manslaughter and first degree homicide. In either case, there is a dead body, the difference goes down to intentions.

Apparently, some people view planning to cheat next Thursday with malice a forethought as being substantially worse than waking up with some stranger you don't remember meeting much less remember having sex with.

Not everyone cares to make that distinction.

Personally, I would say drunken cheating is an accident. Alcohol lowers inhibitions. People want to fuck. They just inhibit themselves from doing so, day-to-day. I think those types of people often blame drinking for what they did. Unless your passed out... being drunk is no excuse. If your eyes are open it does not matter how drunk you are, you can say no and walk away... no excuse!

I agree with you, they're just trying to divert blame and make themselves feel better. Its a conscious choice and a direct result of their actions. Maybe they didn't think things through or maybe they were caught up in the moment and regret it but it still wasn't an accident.

Calling it a mistake would be a better way to phrase it.

Accidentally cheating on your partner would be on a out of town trip staying at a hotel room catching a buzz leaving the hotel room forgetting which room it was coming back and all the lights out not saying a word jumping in bed and having sex only to find out it wasn't your partner. Some people use the "drunk" excuse, but I don't think it is an excuse.
