Can a person cheat and still love their significant other?

Question

The person is having an off and on affair over a year span. What’s going on is sex, phone communication, hanging out at each other’s house. Hookups would be 3-4x per month but there was a 5 month period with no communication as she tried to end and stop her indiscretions. No outside dates due to not wanting to be seen in public.

The reason I ask, is I Recently came across on old girlfriend in which we broke up ending our 5 year relationship due to her cheating. The time frame from when we broke up and now has been 4 1/2 years. She apologize to me again about cheating and said she regrets it, told me she loved me and during her time cheating she still loved me, she was being selfish and didn’t mean to hurt me, but her reason was she was unhappy about some things in our relationship (lack of attention and affection).

Can a person cheat and still love their significant other? Also based on information above can a person who’s cheating fall in love with their affair partner?

I believe so. Someone can cheat and sincerely regret it afterwards. They can be full of remorse , regret and guilt.

There's no correlation between love and infidelity. People cheat because they're weak. They have no willpower , and no self-control over their desires and emotional. So when a situation to cheat presents itself, opportunity controls their loyalty.

If you assume people in love aren't capable of cheating , you'd also have to assume those who aren't in love will cheat. Which is totally unfounded.

People's character determines if they'll cheat , not the strength of their love, or the situation they're in.

Personally, i would never stay with someone who betrayed me by cheating. Once someone cheats (regardless of how sorry they are) they've shown you their true potential. What they're capable of. How can you give someone a second chance by trusting them again, after they've already given you one good reason why they can't be trusted.

People treat you according to the standards you set for yourself. Overlooking infidelity, teaches someone that it's okay to betray you.

I also believe it's possible for some to fall in love with the person they're having an affair with. But I'd say that's rare

I don't care what anyone says here but if you cheat on you're partner you definitely do not love them! You wouldn't even dream of cheating on the person that you love because they mean the world to you and their happiness means the world to you and seeing them sad literally would break your heart.

So to choose to cheat on someone you say you love is horrible because basically you were being selfish and not only that but it can really damage you're partner because they start to see themselves as unworthy, not good enough, unattractive and will have trust issues not only that but the damage will last for many years with them because they will compare themselves to other women/men specially when their partner is checking them out.

Please never ever cheat on a person

It will damage that person for life unless they can get professional help on a way to deal with it.

Nah man. If you love someone who treats you great, then why do you cheat? The answer you belong to the streets. Yes, it is possible to fall in love with your affair partner, but many times that person you fall in love with was just looking for a quick pump and dump situation and some attention. Very rare cases can it amount to anything real other than quick sex and pillow talk

Nothing justifies cheating no matter how bad your partner is. If you have the guts to cheat, you also have the guts to break up but just didn't because you're a scaredy cat. If a person actually loved you, they would never cheat. She had all those time before being penetrated to think she had a boyfriend. She thought it each time before positioning herself but she went ahead with it and didn't care about your feelings because she never loved you

I think you can absolutely love or be in love with someone you have or do cheat on. I think that person is extremely selfish though, so you’re have to decide whether or not you’re comfortable being with someone who loves you, but also cares more about however long a hookup takes than she does about the long term affects this will have on her partner.
Also, my fiancé and I are the product of a 3 year affair. It took a long time to build real trust because we were just sneaking around for years and didn’t really need to worry about being faithful or who was being selfish. Now we’re going on 6 years together, a baby, and we’re planning our wedding. So yes, I do think you can fall in love with your counterpart of an affair.

I personally don’t believe that you love someone if you’re willing to cheat on them. If you truly love that person then you wouldn’t be able to imagine yourself being with someone else let alone cheating on them.
