He's in the right here; it's standard protocol. You probably aren't a cyber security person, but those of us who have contact with that ultra paranoid world can tell you that anything short of a complete wipe of the computer is risky.
There's actually more than one reason a guy would delete his browser history than porn or cheating and that is online shopping maybe gambling not every reason is bad though you can even set up a browser to automatically delete browser history and cookies just don't jump to conclusions x
As a programmer I’m lmao. Yeah, it’s your computer now, he’s giving it to you, ofc he’s gunna wipe it weirdo, that’s what any sane even slightly tech savvy person does.
It’s always best practice from an IT security standpoint to wipe the hard drive when a computer changes owners. You were being rather ungrateful for someone giving you a free computer.
He is right. He's wipe it. Even for the help of your computer. To be honest, sometimes when I see this comments, I think women can be too suspicious for their own good.
Yeah, I don't give away a computer without wiping it. It takes less time than fiddling around with individual settings anyways. You're just disappointed you couldn't snoop.
If I was going to give any device of mine to someone else I'd return it to factory settings as best as possible too. I feel that's just common courtesy. Same if I was reselling something. I doubt it's a trust issue thing.

He's just protecting his personal data because it's not just log ins, it's prob bank details and with online banking or Amazon and stuff and possibly porn on there. Plus if you get a virus or something his details could be compromised or if someone uses the computer or stolen it, then they could get his data.
Plus I'm not saying you would but if you two broken up and you hated him and wanted revenge you could easily use his stuff on his computer to get back at him
also obviously my passwords and bank accounts are none of her business. trust is all fine and dandy untill you get fucked over. so don't even give them the chance, if you can avoid it.
So I'm assuming you give everyone on the street your bank card and pin number and expect that they'll do the honorable thing and not look to see how much you have or take anything to huh?
So you're getting a FREE laptop with all new SW and griping about it? Hiding or not - his information is none of your concern. Your getting into a snit about it indicates you're nosy. Maybe he should consider getting a different girlfriend.
Banking and other information is sensitive, passwords, family business... after it leaves you possession, you have NO control where it could end up... ALWAYS wipe the hard-drive, it could end up at Goodwill...
He’s wiping a computer before you get it, that’s standard procedure.
But if you really wanted to see what he was up to, he may not have wiped the cache, and the cache has every website he’s been to stored, so you can check ;D
That’s how you should treat all your data regardless of who you give it to. If he had banking and financial information or and your laptop gets malware or ransomware then his data is at risk.
If he uses it for programming, he might have data that is not just his but also from clients. Also it's fairly standard to format a laptop before giving it to someone else.

I would do the same. It has nothing to do with hiding anything, or trusting anyone.
Basically it is an unnecessary risk, having your logins and private data floating around.
You're just a girlfriend. Why would he give you access to everything he has ever loggen into including more than likely all his financial stuff?

He could also have financial information on there like passwords to bank statements etc I would do the same and wipe it

It's a standard practice to wipe an od computer as his projects are still there even if deleted. Stuff he might not wantcanyonevto get their hands on.
well duh... i wouldn't give my laptop with all my porn on it to my girlfriend... that's embarrassing.

Eh it's actually easier to wipe it and have a fresh start
This.
People in here saying he's up to something are overthinking it, it's just easier to wipe and redo things from scratch.
@admles my friend gave me his old computer without wiping over 2 years ago and still to this day I am finding random shit that's his

I’m betting he had a crypto wallet on there and didn’t want his wallet getting hacked.

I thought client data is kept on the company provided laptop. We can use our own laptop too?
@The_Shadow_Dweller from what she said, I assumed he programmed on the side so it was possible.
