"Absence makes the heart grow fonder" or "out of sight, out of mind"? Which one do you agree with?

It used to be "absence makes the heart grow fonder" when I was 14 and in a long-term and long-distance relationship. This was before texting existed! So we talked through the phone, IMs, e-mails, mail from the post office. It was great until he came back, and had me close. It's like he had to have me far to appreciate me :-\ which is true for a lot of people but I found it uncool when I wanted to spend time with him in the afternoon and him at night when he knew damn well that I had a curfew.

"Out of sight, out of mind" now because when I'm in a relationship with someone who lives at least 30-45 min away, and they can't take the time to see me on their days off, then bye bye. If it happens a few times that they turn me down or say no 'cause they have other things to do or want some alone time, that's understandable. When I get a text with "I'm sick" or " I'm broke" the day of, I don't believe them because they don't have the decency to call. Or if we have set plans, and they don't show up nor cancel, I will forget about wasting another minute on them. I used to talk to them about it and give them another chance, but everyone woman has a breaking point.

This answer to your question varies greatly and can go either way depending on the feelings between the two people in question. Both can be true, depending on the situation. Like, for example, I have a friend who's boyfriend just got sentenced to six months in jail but she fully plans on waiting for him and being there when he gets out. She feels she is lucky just to get to talk to him on the phone every couple of weeks. If the two people loved each other than of coarse the first rule would apply, and the heart would miss them be it a week or a year or longer. Now, let's take two people who just started dating and who's feelings aren't very deep yet. If they were to break up or if one was to leave it would defiantly apply to "out of sight, out of mind". If you didn't love someone yet liked them it will sting a bit but you will not hurt and truly miss them when they are gone. It all depends on where someone's heart is at and pertaining to who.

Someone mentioned something about cheating & you should remind them that you're there & such...I've always viewed cheating as a symptom of a failed relationship, as in the guy (or girl) who cheats has emotionally withdrawn from the relationship because their partner wasn't hearing them or providing for their needs or something...sometimes its their own fault for not letting their partner know what they want out of that relationship, though. idk...just my 2 cents...
